Smackdown Syndrome:
Discovery Centre Winchester
20th November 2013
Mark Flynn and Marco Carraro proved themselves to be a tag-team of creative genius last night after delivering a hugely entertaining performance of their 'Smackdown Syndrome' at Winchester's Discovery Centre.
Their two-man play, devised after a greatly successful crowd-funding campaign, follows the story of awkward and troubled teenager Thomas Throttle, played by Marco, as he literally wrestles his own life with his fantasy alter-ego professional wrestler; Tommy Gunn. Marco switches between parts effortlessly, from getting the entire audience on their feet roaring for the charismatic, crowd-pleasing wrestler 'Tommy Gunn', to keeping them firmly sat, silent and feeling great empathy for the struggling young schoolboy Thomas just trying to fulfil his own dreams. Mark also shows off his versatile acting style, by playing every single character that Thomas confronts throughout the story.
As well as providing fast, witty, hilarious dialogue, the unique storyline touches on personal issues and gives us the entertaining image of the young Thomas finding the courage to stand up for himself; to himself. Providing the audience with the message to follow your dreams, be passionate and ultimately to put your metaphorical rival through a table! An absolute pleasure to watch.
